Auston  Matthews


    The real name is Auston Taylour Matthews, who is a professional American ice hockey player. His playing position is the centre and is the alternate captain of the Toronto Maple Leaf in the NHL (National Hockey League). 

    Auston Matthews was born in San Ramon, California, on September 17, 1997. However, his family moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, during his childhood. He started playing baseball and hockey during his childhood. But he was focused on playing hockey by watching a local hockey player named Phoenix Coyotes.

    Matthew also played for the ZSC Lions, Swiss National League in 2016, the same year ZSC Lions win a Swiss cup. After that, Matthew became one of the best players and was selected for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

    Career in NHL

    While Matthew was in college, he played for under-18 national ice hockey team helped to win the 214 Under-18 national ice hockey world championship. Thus, Mathews's play was getting better and better over the years.

    In 2015 Tournament, he was selected as one of the Most Valuable Player (MVP). He was also known as a star player after being selected as MVP. Moreover, he also selected for the Deutschland Cup roster in 2015. However, because of his back injury, he was forced out of the tournament.

    Matthews started his NHL career on October 13, 2016. He scored 4 goals on his debut match and set a record of scoring 4 goals in the 1st match. In 2016-17, under his captaincy maple leaf won the Calder cup by scoring 40 goals and 69 points including 279 goal attempts. In the same year, Matthews won the NHL's rookie of the year award.

    In 2017-18 Matthew was injured which restricted him to play 62 matches that year. However, before the injury, he finished the season with 34 goals, 29 pretty good assists. Thereafter, he scored 37 goals and 73 assists in 2018-2019, which is the highest score of his overall NHL career.

    After that, he joined some elite companies by scoring 30 goals which are for the fourth time in 2019- 2020 NHL seasons where he played 45 matches. He finished the season playing 70 games and scored 47 goals throughout the season. He played very well all over the season where he had to face David Pastrnak who is the captain of Boston Bruins and Alex Ovechkin who is the captain of Washington Capitals.

    The most significant achievement of Auston was the Calder Memorial Trophy, which he was awarded as the top rookie of the NHL. He won the prize with 164 of 167 first-place votes, to recognize his historic achievements throughout the year. He was the first Leaf's rookie to receive the trophy in 50 years since it was won in 1966 by Brit Selby.
