Gaga's Early Life:
Lady Gaga, the stage name for Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta was born on Mar 28, 1986, in Yonkers, New York. She got her idea of this name from Queen's famous song "Radio Ga-ga" and took the name of Lady Gaga before becoming an international pop star.
Besides her singing and songwriting prowess, she is also known for her acting performances in some movies. This versatile singer has been reinventing herself time and again in different areas of entertainment through her music.
There's always an element of surprise that keeps her fans hanging on the edge. Since her studying days in a private Roman Catholic school, she was mocked for being too eccentric and provocative. This led her to think that she was a misfit.
She learned to become more "cultured" according to her mom, by learning to play the piano. She learned by ear instead of learning music by studying the notes. She was enrolled in the Creative Arts Camp to pursue music.
She continued both music and performing and wrote her first piano ballad at only 13 years of age. The next year, she did her first open-mic performance in a New York night club.
Fast forward a couple of years, and Gaga was accepted into NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. She studied music there and sharpened her skills of songwriting side by side. To find creative inspiration, she later withdrew from the Arts school.
In September 2006, Gaga was signed by Def Jam Records but eventually dropped from that. She used to perform at neo-burlesque shows, which, according to her, gave her freedom. It is around this time that she met performance artist Lady Starlight.
The onstage Gaga image that she has now is much accredited to that woman. The pair performed in Mercury Lounge, The Bitter End, and the Rockwood Music Hall and their togetherness gave birth to The Ultimate Pop Burlesque Rockshow and Lady Gaga and the Starlight Revue.
Musical Influence:
Her style was based on electronic dance music first. From there, she shifted to pop melodies and glam rock, uniting Queen and David Bowie's style of music. In November 2007, she was signed by Streamline Records, which was an imprint of Interscope Records. Gaga found Vincent Herbert as the man who discovered her.
She used to be an apprentice songwriter for Famous Music Publishing and later signed a deal with Sony/ATV. She then used to write songs for the likes of Britney Spears, New Kids on the Block, The Pussycat Dolls, etc.
Musician Akon became attentive to her, and her voice while on a recording and signed her to his label under the Interscope umbrella, KonLive. Akon later became her "franchise player."
Although she had landed a record deal back in 2007, some radio stations tagged her music as too racy or underground for the mainstream music going on those days. Gaga was confident and told them that is what's next.
Albums:
2007-2008 saw Gaga writing her Debut Album: The Fame. She set up her creative team called the Haus of Gaga. Released in 2008, her debut reached number one in Canada, UK, Germany, Switzerland, and more.
The first two singles on the album were Just Dance and Poker Face, which reached numero uno in the US, UK, Australia, and Canada. Poker Face was the best-selling single of '09, with 9.8 million copies of it sold that same year.
It spent record-bearing 83 weeks on Billboard magazine's Digital Songs chart. At the 52nd Grammys, both her album and the legendary song got her the Best Dance/Electronica Album and Best Dance Recording.
A reissue of The Fame was called The Fame Monster. Its first single was Bad Romance, which was released a month after. It stood first in the UK and Canada charts, second in the US charts. It also had the song Telephone featuring Beyoncé. For Bad Romance, Gaga became the first person to reach more than a billion combined views on YouTube.
2009 still had a lot in store for her. She spent a record-setting 150 weeks on the UK charts and was the most downloadable female act of the year in the US, selling 11.1 million downloads and entering the Guinness World Records.
In 2011, she released Born This Way as the title-track of the same-named album. In just 5 days, this sold over a million copies. And it bore another record as the fastest single sold on iTunes. It had the songs Judas, The Edge of Glory, Marry the Night, You and I, etc.
Her third studio album, Artpop, was released in the next year with the essence of "a night in the club". It had the songs, Aura, Do What U Want, and the first single, Applause. This album didn't resonate as well as her previous work with her audience.
In 2014, she released an album of jazz duets with Tony Bennett titled Cheek to Cheek. This later won Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album in the Grammys.
She was the Vocalist for Academy Awards in 2015, paying tribute to the 50th anniversary of The Sound of Music and actress/singer Julie Andrews. In 2016, she did another tribute to the late David Bowie.
Another one of her notable performance was at the 88th Annual Academy Awards, where she performed Til It Happens to You, a song on rape issues on college campuses which, towards the end, brought assault survivors on the stage and the entire performance ended in a standing ovation from everyone.
Her fourth studio album called Joanne was released in 2016, which focused more on her relationships and progressions. The title track of the album got her the Best Pop Solo Performance Grammy.
The same year, she performed the national anthem in the 50th Super Bowl and followed that with her iconic hits Bad Romance, Poker Face, Born This Way, Telephone, Just Dance, Million Reasons, etc.
Sher style was based on electronic dance music first. From there, she shifted to pop melodies and glam rock, uniting Queen and David Bowie's style of music. In November 2007, she was signed by Streamline Records, which was an imprint of Interscope Records. Gaga found Vincent Herbert as the man who discovered her. Conclusion:
She won the trio of Golden Globe, Grammy, and Oscar for her duet Shallow with Bradley Cooper. Her fifth studio album is on its way as we are blessed with the single Stupid Love as of February 2020.
Undoubtedly, Lady Gaga is one of the most talented singers of the time. Her concerts are always exciting for music lovers all over the world. Enjoy the Lady Gaga Tour 2020 with your friends and family.
